Truman, Harry S. Thirty-third President of the United States, served as vice president under FDR and succeeded him on the latter's death; implemented the Marshall Plan, established the Truman Doctrine and NATO. Document Signed "Harry S Truman" as President. 7 x 8 7/8" typed letter on White House stationery, July 31, 1946. Writing to Senator McFarland, Truman notes he is enclosing a copy of letter received from the Housing Expediter Administrator in regard to "the matter about which you phoned me". He signs in black below. Very Fine; also 8x10" B&W news photo of Truman on his 63rd birthday May 8, 1947m holding his cake.
