Lincoln, Robert Todd (1843-1926). Politician, lawyer and businessman; son of Abraham Lincoln and Mary Todd Lincoln and their only son to survive to adulthood; Secretary of War (1881-1885), U.S. Minister to the United Kingdom (1889-1893); general counsel of the Pullman Palace Car Co. and later its president. Autograph Letter Signed "Robert T. Lincoln. One page, on Lincoln's Attorney at law stationery, 5 x 8", Chicago, Jan. 4, 1871. Lincoln acknowledges receipt of Edwin's letter. "You succeeded so much that I think I shall charge Ely monthly for my astuteness in sending to the matter to you." He closes by wishing Edwin a Happy New Year, boldly signing below. Mounting stain on blank back. Very Fine.
