Lincoln, Benjamin (1733-1810). Major General in the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War, participated in the Battle of Saratoga, Second-in-Command to Gen. George Washington when the later formally accepted the British surrender at Yorktown; Secretary of War (1781-1783), headed militia that suppressed Shays' Rebellion; in his later years, served as Customs Collector for the Port of Boston. Document Signed "B Lincoln" as Customs Collector. 9 ¾ x 5" partially printed certification of the importation of one Cask of Wine. Lincoln signs lower right. Some weakness to the ink, but signature clear. Fine. Attractively matted with an engraving of Lincoln and gilt framed, 16 ½ x 21 ½".
