Hancock, John (1737-1793). American merchant and statesman, prominent patriot of the American Revolution, President of the Second Continental Congress, first and third Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, known for his large and stylish signature on the Declaration of Independence. Document Signed "John Hancock". Promissary note for 1,412 Pounds, 17 Shillings and Six Pence Sterling, Boston April 17, 1767 payable to Hancock or order in London. Hancock signs with his characteristic flourish on verso. H. Gray signs as Treasurer on front. A few minor junction holes at central fold. Fine. Always a sought-after and highly prized autograph.
