Hamilton, Alexander (1755/57-1804). One of the Founding Fathers of the United States, influential interpreter and promoter of the U.S. Constitution, founder of the nation's financial system as well as the federalist party, the US Coast Guard and the New York Post (once a respected broadsheet); Delegate to the Congress of the Confederation from New York; First U.S. Secretary of the Treasury (1789-1795); mortally wounded by Aaron Burr in a duel in 1804. Document Signed "A Hamilton" as Secretary of the Treasury. Partially printed Treasury Department Circular, Nov. 29, 1794 requesting that the Collector retain sufficient monies collected on duties in order to discharge the allowances to fighting vessels which will become due in his district; draft of Benjamin Lincoln, Collector of Boston below. Hamilton signs below request. Notation on verso in ink of the circular. Nice, clear signature. Some age toning, minor very minor edge nibbling. Fine.
