Degas, Edgar (Hilaire-Germain-Edgar De Gas) (1837-1917). Brilliant French artist known for his pastel drawings and oil paintings of dancers and women bathing; also produced sculpture, prints and drawings; regarded as the Father of Impressionism - though he rejected the term and preferred to be called a realist. Autograph Letter Signed "Degas". One page on light brown note paper, 4 ½ x 5 ½", dated only 26 July. Writing in French to an unknown gentleman, Degas says if the recipient is still in Mont-Dore on the 3rd or 4th that they will meet for he is "going to do a cure [there]". He signs below. With CoA from John Reznikoff and R&R. Matted with a print of Degas' 1898 work "After the Bath" and set in a lovely ornate and heavy frame, 28 ½ x 24".
