Custer, George Armstrong. Pair of Custer Autographed Military Envelopes. 1) Custer Autographed Envelope, postmark illegible,. The address written in pencil by George Armstrong Custer to "Mrs. General Custer / 339 Penn Avenue / Washington, D. C." "Head Quarters, Defense of Washington / OFFICIAL BUSINESS" printed upper right side. The right end of the envelope is missing, but the name and address are almost complete. Probably written in 1864, at the time Custer was assigned to General Sheridan, encamped near Harper's Ferry. 2) Custer Autographed Envelope, postmarked Washington, D.C. April 13, (probably 1864), with the address written in light pencil by George Armstrong Custer to "Mrs. General Custer / 369 Cor of H & 18th St. / Washington, D. C." Printed "Headquarters Third Division, / Cavalry Corps. / OFFICIAL BUSINESS" printed in the upper right corner. The postmark partially covers "Genl," but "Custer" is clear. Light to moderate stains, left side. [2]
