Geographe du Roy, Paris en l'Isle du Palais 1664. Approximately 20" by 30 1/2". Hand colored. According to the consignor, an example of the the Fourth State, first published in 1677, realized 3,800 Pounds plus commissions in a December 2000 sale in London. It was subsequently offered by Maggs (Lot 22, Cataloge 1305, November 2001) for 8,500 Pounds.Our Second State example is considerably rarer. There are folds, and light age toning, but this is a very attractive example of this early and important map.
