France. Nicolas Oudinot (1767-1848). First Comte Oudinot, 1st Duc de Reggio, General Masséna's right hand during the Swiss campaign of 1799, first as general of division, then chief of staff. Won extraordinary distinction at the Second Battle of Zürich. Distinguished himself at the Battle of Manzambano for which Napoleon presented him with the Sword of Honor. Wounded at least 34 times in battle - bullets, artillery shells, saber slashes and thrusts. Promoted to Marshal of France after displaying dazzling courage at the Battle of Wagram, administered former Kingdom of Holland, 1810-1812. Letter Signed "Oudinot". Folio. One page, Armée du Danube, "Le Général de Division Oudinot" letterhead, 24 floreal, An 7. Writing to General Vandamme, Oudinot mentions a letter from his commander General Andre Masséna and discusses military dispositions. He signs below "Salut et Amitiés Oudinot". Matted with a lovely color engraving by Delannoy of Oudinot and attractively framed, 22 ¼ x 21".
