Cambacérès, Jean-Jacques, Régis de (1753-1824). One of the principal lawmakers during the Revolution, became Second Consul during the Consulate, later appointed by Napoleon Arch-Chancellor of France and Duke of Parma; and Douai, Philippe-Antoine Merlin de (1756-1838). President of the Convention after the fall of Robespierre, commissioned with Cambacérès to draft the new legislation, later member of the Directory and Minister, appointed by Napoleon Conseiller d'État and Count of the Empire. Letter Signed "Cambacérès" and "Merlin (de douai)". 1 ¼ page, folio, dated 11 fructidor An II (August 28, 1794). Letter from the "tribunal" of the town of Doullens (Dept. Somme) submitting a legal problem to the Committee for Legislation of the National Convention. The Committee returned the original letter under seal and postmark of the Convention Nationale within four days, using the margins to insert the requested legal information. Cambacérès and Merlin de Douai sign at the bottom left for the Committee along with Bézard, deputy of the Oise Dept. (later member of the Council of 500 and the Tribunal) and Bar, deputy of the Oise Dept., later member of the Council of the Elder. Small piece missing from bottom right corner doesn't affect letter.
