Berthier, Louis-Alexandre (1753-1815). First Prince de Wagram, 1st Duc de Valengin, 1st Sovereign duc de Neuchâtel. Chief of Staff to Napoleon and often called his "right-hand man," assisted in the coup d'etat of 18 Brumaire, becoming Minister of War for a time; Marshal and Vice-Constable of France. Autograph Letter Signed "Alex Berthier" as Minister of War. One page on Ministerial letterhead, 7 ¼ x 9 ½". Dated Paris, Thermidor An 9 (Aug. 10, 1801). In it, Berthier acknowledges a report by the instructor of the training school for light cavalry at Versailles and voices his satisfaction with the methods applied at this school. Some light browning and foxing in margins. Very Good.
