Mackay, Charles (1814-1889). Scottish poet, author and journalist. Best known for "Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds." "Salamandrine [or Love and Immortality]." Early version of a poem later published. 8vo, 3 pages, one consists of only the title, the other pages with stanzas 24 through 28 of the published version. All in Mackay's hand, but not signed. The folds are reenforced with archival tape or stamp hinges, otherwise very good. A typed version of the text is included. From the Collection of John Herzog.
