Foot Guards Officer's 1828-Pattern Shako. Regency-early Victorian period. Bell-top, body in black beaver skin, the top and peak black patent leather. Front plate composed of a large crown above a large gilt rayed star over a silver gilt rayed star, enameled insignia of the Order of the Garter above battle honor PENINSULA at center, topped by red over white woolen pompom. Gilt lion on crown bosses either side suspend gilt, velvet-backed chin scales. Sweat band and front peak lining in dark green leather. Maker's label inside: Hawkes Mosley & Sons HATTERS TO HIS MAJESTY THE PRINCE OF WALES No. 14 PICCADILLY, LONDON. Some loose seams on body with separation, a number of shallow scores on front peak, some repair to the star's rays, overall Very Good. Ex Hammatt Collection.
