Cold Stream Guard's Officer's "Regency" Shako. Ca. 1821. Black felt. Faced with radiant silver plaque with Order of the Garter insignia, a cockade with plain gilt button above, topped by white over red tall plume set in gilt holder. Gold cap lines loop shako, Tudor rose bosses suspend gilt chin scales from sides. Maker's name inside: C. OLIPHANT /COCKSPUR ST. LONDON. Typical wear for an early shako, some crazing on leather peak, the plume holder loose (plume stem reinforced), boss pin loose on one side. Light dent above insignia, a Good example and rare. Ex Hammatt Collection.
