Gaskell, Elizabeth Cleghorn (1810-1865). Victorian era English novelist and short story writer. Mrs. Gaskell wrote The "Life of Charlotte Bronte." ALS, 3pp, 8vo. To her friend Mrs. Alcock, chairman of the Cross Street Unitarian Chapel, Manchester. "I am busier than busy, but I must send you these autographs for Mr. Tatham….Keep a time for us…as suits you best." Also included is a printed image of Gaskell, and a clipped signature. "Yours affectionately E. C. Gaskell", Mounted to an attractive lace-bordered sheet of delicate paper. A few clean tears and some light soiling, otherwise very good.
