Lot: 1368

Charles II. Stuart King of England, Scotland, and Ireland (1660-1685). LS, 4vo. July 27, 1666. Signed "Charles R" at the top. Sir Thomas Slingesby, Knight, signs one of the back panels. "Our will and Pleasure is that out of such monies as are or shall come to your hands for the Pay of Our Forces and Garrisons in England you Pay on to Our trusty and welbeloved Sr. Thomas Slingesby, Knt. (or whom he shall appoint) the sum of One hundred and Eighty Eight Pounds one shilling & foure[sic] Pence. The same being due to Our Guarrison[sic] of Scarborough for two months Pay on the muster of the 18th of November 1671…Given at Our Court at Whitehall…" This document was signed during the Second Dutch War. By 1666 France and Denmark were allies of the Dutch, and an attack on the Thames was to become a reality a year later. Some light age toning is present. There is a long fold split, and a small tear in the bottom margin, but otherwise quite nice. Another great opportunity to obtain an important Royal document.

Ex. Lot 60, R. M. Smythe & Co. Public Auction 280, June 18, 2008.
