Chesterfield, Philip Dormer Stanhope, 4th Earl (1694-1773). British Statesman and man of letters. ALS, one page, 4to, London, October 24, 1761. To Mrs. Kirkby, sending thanks:
"I think my self much obliged to you for your kind present of five hundred or a thousand pounds; and though (as you observe) it is not out of your own pocket, it would probably have never come into mine with out your information. I will send orders to Padley to have it examined by some skillful person who shall mark only for felling those trees that hinder the others from growing. I am very glad to hear that your Military son, does so well in the profession which he has chosen …."
A trifle worn; neatly tipped to a leaf from an album, but in very good condition.
From the collection of Diana Herzog.
