Eisenhower, Dwight David "Ike". Five-star general, Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces in Europe during World War II, president of Columbia University; in 1951, became the first Supreme Commander of NATO, 34th President of the United States (1953-1961). Signed copy of his book "Crusade in Europe", first edition, Garden City, NY, Doubleday, 1948, including set-in letter signed. 8 vo, tan cloth with facsimile signature on front board. Original dust jacket depicting Eisenhower in uniform as five-star general. Tipped opposite half title is a Typed Letter Signed "Dwight D. Eisenhower" as president of Columbia University. One page on official stationery, December 8, 1948. Writing to Mrs. Godfrey G. Luthy about the book, and his earlier acquaintance with the Luthys, he notes that he is enclosing a signed "notehead which may be inserted in the copy you are giving your son." That "notehead", embossed with "DDE" and his five-star insignia in maroon, and signed "Dwight D. Eisenhower" is tipped to the title page. Gift inscription from Godfrey Luthy to his wife Corinne on dedication page. Also unrelated ex-libris bookplate on inside front cover.
