Slavery; Virginia history. Receipt for the sale of a slave, Lynchburg (VA), Nov. 21, 1807. One page, 8 x 13 ¼". For the "consideration of the Sum of Forty Nine Pounds", William Presley Claiborne of the town of Lynchburg sells Stephen Ham "a certain Negro Girl Maria the Rights and Title of which Negro Girl and her increase…" Clairborne signs below with flourish, with two witnesses signatures to the left. Small tear at top does not interfere with text. Good Fine.
