Civil War. Pre-Hostilities. Pair of newspapers: "The Daily True Delta," New Orleans, Jan. 1, 1861 and Jan. 9, 1861. 8 pages folio; and 6 pages folio. The first contains a pro-secession letter on the front page, an article on Senate resolutions for "restoring peace and preserving the Union," mentions six Southern states holding secession conventions and gives an extensive report and listing of ship arrivals and departures. The latter contains an interview between Lincoln and the South Carolina commissions as recounted from NY and Philadelphia papers, and discusses the effect of secession on patents, northern governors' pledges of support to preserve the Union, "ladies of Georgia" resolve to help South Carolina, and the onset of resignations by Southern military officers and politicians in anticipation of further secessions. Separation on edge, typical fold, light soiling. Very Good-About Fine. [2]
