Burr, Aaron. Third Vice President of the United States (1801-1805), successful lawyer and politician, New York Attorney General, NY Senator; Burr mortally wounded Alexander Hamilton in an infamous duel outside Weehawken N.J. on July 11, 1804 (fleeing to South Carolina afterwards, before returning to Washington, D.C. to complete his term as vice president). Letter, unsigned, but in his hand, n.d. (1820's). Half page, address on verso, 7 3/8 x 9". Burr writes to "Mrs. Bradstreet" at "Skinner's Mansion-house" saying "I sent to Mr Williams this afternoon, some Dates & an extract from the Will of Martha B. to be laid before the Committee & at the same time enquired when he intended to convene the members & whether my attendance was expected - to which I received the enclosed reply, which I conclude that his Opinion on the Subject is already formed." Martha Bradstreet, a friend and legal client of Burr's, was the step granddaughter of British General John Bradstreet. She retained Burr in the 1820's to try to recover properties in upstate New York which were granted to General Bradstreet by the British crown for his service in the French & Indian War.
