Abraham Lincoln Bust Plaque by Victor D. Brenner. An impressive 7" x 9" bronze foundry cast plaque affixed to pink and green marble stand with easel at back. Cast by S. Klaber & Co., NY with a stamp at the left edge, and featuring a large handsome right-facing bust of Lincoln with "Abraham Lincoln ** 1809 * 1865 **" at base. The right edge reads, "Copyright 1907 By V D Brenner". A well known and impressive work, so much so that President Roosevelt´s fondness for it led to Victor D. Brenner´s design (a remarkable similar one at that) of the Lincoln cent two years later. The surfaces of the present example are beautifully preserved with an even chocolate-brown patina with close inspection yielding minor verdigris, as it typical. Minor corner chips are noted, but taking the size and weight into account, the overall state of preservation is remarkable. Given the relevance of the subject, the present piece would fit appropriately into a collection of plaques, Lincolniana, or even as a capstone to a Lincoln cent set.
