D.F.M. London Gazette 21.1.1944. Sergeant Dennis Doe No.83 Squadron, Royal Air Force.
The Recommendation, dated 20.10.1943, states: 'Sergeant Doe has completed 41 operational sorties against the enemy as mid-upper gunner. Sixteen of these have been with the Pathfinder Force and have included five attacks on Berlin, five on Duisberg, three on Essen, three on Hanover and others on heavily defended areas of the Ruhr. Throughout all these operations, Sergeant Doe has displayed coolness and a high standard of courage. One night in September, 1943, when his aircraft was attacked by an enemy twin-engined fighter, Sergeant Doe opened fire and drove off the attack together with the rear gunner. On other occasions his unceasing vigilance in the air has been largely responsible for the safety of the aircraft and the sucess of the operations. His skillful vigilance under the most trying conditions of weather and enemy opposition have earned him the fullest confidence of his crew and he sets both an excellent example both in the air and on the ground.'
