The Recommendation states; 'Warrant Officer Pollard was posted as a Beam Approach Training instructor after being withdrawn from operational flying duties when the aircraft in which he was flying crashed. As a result of the accident he lost the use of his left eye. His determination, cheerfulness and courage, in the face of physical handicap, have set a high example.'
Flying Officer Bruce Pollard joined the Rpyal Air Force as an Aircraft Apprentice, 1930; trained as a Pilot, 1938 and qualified in bombers 1938/9; initially with 106 Squadron at R.A.F. Thornely and Finningley, flying Fairey Battles and later Hampdens; transferred to 50 Squadron as an Operational Pilot 1940; lost use of left eye in a flying accident 13.4.1940, and was transferred to training duties; retired 1946 after 16 years service
