D.F.C. London Gazette 27.3.1945 Pilot Officer Thomas William Bland, No. 106 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve.
The Recommmendation states; 'Pilot Officer Bland has completed a successful tour of operations during which he has participated in attacks against a wide range of major targets. He has proved himself to be a cool and accurate air bomber. His enthusiasm, determination and devotion to duty have always been of the highest order.
In August, 1944 his aircraft was detailed for a mine- laying mission in the Konigsberger Seekanel. In the face of intense opposition he had to drop his mines in a channel only 54 yards wide. Despite considerable searchlight illumination and fire from the defences the mission was successfully completed.'
