Captain Charles Bullen, born East Harling, Norfolk, joined the Norfolk Regiment, 1896, aged 20 years. Rising through the ranks to Company Sergeant Major 1.8.1915 he was commissioned in June the following year. He served in Mesopotania from 6.11.1914 to 22.6.1915 and was wounded in action at Shaiba, Persian Gulf, 14.4.1915
