Tucker, Sophie Russian-born American singer and comedian (1884-1966); billed as the "Last of the Red-hot Mamas"; known for her bawdy style and strong voice. Outstanding association ALS "Sophie Tucker," 1p, 4to, on stationery imprinted with her name and address, NYC, 6/26/1965. She writes novelist Pearl Buck, "Having re-read your letter I am happy to advise you I will remain on your board with pleasure..." Staple hole at upper left, otherwise Fine. The board of which she writes was for Buck´s foundation to benefit Asian children whose fathers were white servicemen who had returned home; the children were frequent victims of ostracism for their mixed lineage. With ALS "Sophie Tucker," 1p, 12mo, on postcard imprinted with her name and address, NYC, 7/27/1965. She writes Ann Manning, "...I didn´t remember Mrs. Sheehan but I seen her a card and told her she met a grand gal in You. I play Revere, Mass, July 30 for 10 days - feel fine." Postmark touches three lines of text. Toned, otherwise in very good condition. Though Miss Tucker claimed she felt fine, she was suffering from cancer that would take her life in just seven months.
