Tweed Ring: Tweed, Connolly and Hall - Choice pair of documents signed by the infamous WM "Boss" Tweed (1823-78), alleged leader of New York´s Tammany Hall, and other members of the city´s corrupt political machine. DS "W.M. Tweed" as Deputy Street Commissioner, 1p, legal folio, NY, 11/14/1863. Tweed attests to the necessity of a city payout to E. Jones & Co for "Printing for Departments," totalling $1051. Also signed by Deputy Superintendent of Repairs and Supplies "Chas. Boice." Bottom 1/5 folded, with some separation at edges, small piece out at top left from stapling, overall VG. With a DS by Mayor "Oakley Hall" and Comptroller "Richard B.
