1704 A receipt for an interest payment of £3.10s (6%) from a £100 loan given to Rachel, wife of Robert Wallis. Rachel was the daughter of William Fairfax, who signed this document on the reverse.

This document marks the beginning of a shift away from privately funded tontines towards government bonds at 6% interest, which was used to pay the national debt. This is still in use today.
