Siege of Cockermouth Castle
1648 July 6 - Autograph letter by John Lambert, General Commanding the Northern Army (rated by the Parliamentarians as an officer of exceptional capacity), with an address panel "For William Musgrave, Governor of Cockermouth". Lambert issues an ultimatum to Musgrave that if he did not "entertain a treaty with me but desire time till tomorrow morning to consider some proposals....I shall be forced to use such means as I rather desire to avoid".
