Request for Payment
December 1646 An interesting request for payment sent by Captain Fauconberg of the Yeoman of the Guard, requesting payment of £6.13s.4d for his soldier, Francis Whitaker.
This was a tumultuous time in English history as Charles I had just surrendered to the Scottish army and was being held at Anderson Place in Newcastle as a prisoner. The Yeoman of the Guard, the sovereign's bodyguard founded under Henry VII, were therefore unsure as to who they were supposed to be protecting.
