The Earl of Nottingham (1536-1624)
1598 July 11 - Letter signed "Nottingham" by Howard of Effingham, now Earl of Nottingham, the Lord High Admiral who defeated the Spanish Armada, writing from Greenwich, with his seal and address panel "To my verie loving ffriend Sir John Spencer" requesting him to bestow a Buck on the bearer of the letter, "a servant of mine". Nottingham was a Levant merchant and Lord Mayor of London (1594-5).
