Prince Rupert Signed Commission
1643 (13 December) commission on vellum headed "By the authority and power given mee from our Soveraigne Lord King Charles under the great Seale of England as Generall under his Ma[jes]tie of all his Ma[jes]tes Horse, as well Troopes of Horse" appointing John Messenger as "Captaine of one Troope of Cuirasiers under the Regiment of Col[onel] Marmaduke Hotlby Colo[nel] of Horse ... ffor the Defence of the true Protestant Religion, his Ma[jes]tes Person, the two howses of Parliam[en]t & their just priviledges ... Willing and requiring all inferior Officers and Souldiers of the said Troope to obey you as their Cpataine for his Ma[jes]tes Army, to whom of right you are and may be subordinate according o the Discipline of Warre".

Complete with paper seal and most unusually, eighteen perforated holes in a circular pattern punched through the vellum under the seal, perhaps to protect it.

Beautifully presented in custom made box.

Some light foxing as to be expected, otherwise well preserved and a very rare warrant signed by Prince Rupert.
