Two autograph letters signed:

1644 (13 March) with integral address panel reading "For the Right Worshipful Sir Robert Spottiswoode", a long letter regarding the dispatch of Corchran to Lord Newcastle who is to inform him "what we had to expect, which necessarily occasioned our stay here for some days" and the fact that his return has been long awaited. Also "Tomorrow we are to goe to the armie, which is lost dayly to fight, but wee hope wee shall come in tyme, to beare them witness. Argyle uppon the runour of our comming is returned to Scotland ... we intend to make all possible dispatch to follow him at the heels".

1644 (16 July) autograph letter from Preston reading "we have been too particular in our information that having left myself nothing to say axcepting that I must still declare onto you and offer my hand so fare".

Montrose signatures are rare.
