1642 (July) letter signed [Sir] Rt[Robert] Slingsby "From abord his Mast Shippe the Guardland in the Downs" with integral address panel reading "To the right Honble the Earl of Warwick aboard his Mast Shippe the James" in response to the appointment of the Earl of Northumberland as Admiral, "conceiving that my commission is now voyd" and asking "whom I may legally deliver up this ship under my charge"; also 1642 (26 March) letter (backed on conservation paper) to the Commissioners and Officers of His Majesty's Navy appointing William Pett to be Boatswain on His Majesty's penance first whelp, signed by Algernon Percy, Earl of Northumberland, Henry Rich, Earl of Holland, Sir Robert Pye and Jon Rolle.
