Postal Fraud
1840 (1 July) entire to Derby bearing two halves of Penny Black (cut horizontally), the bottom half plate 1b, HH and the top half from plate 1a, tied by a good strike of deep dull red Maltese Cross with Cheltenham despatch c.d.s. alongside and with two strikes of Derby arrival at left (1.7); a horizontal filing fold. A fairly obvious fraud as the Queen has two mouths and may have caused the delay in delivery, however, no further action seems to have been taken. Brandon Certificate (2005); Also 1842 (21 Apr.) envelope to Ipswich bearing 1d. red-brown, two examples joined diagonally (large margins all round) cancelled by a neat and central strike of black Maltese Cross, the reverse with Bury St. Edmunds despatch ad Ipswich arrival c.d.s. A scarce duo
