(x) Edward III (1327-1377), Fourth Coinage, Pre-Treaty Period, Noble, 1351, Series B, Tower (London), E | DWARD • DEI • GRA • REX • ANGL '• 7 • FRANC '• D • hIB [sic], single annulet stops, Roman reversed-barred Ns, wedge-tailed R, King standing in ship, brandishing long sword and Royal shield set with semé of four fleurs in first quarter, wearing Royal jupon over brigandine armour, rerebrace, couter and gauntlet visible on sword arm, chain mail draping below, ropes 3/2, quatrefoils 4/4, bow-sprit through foc'sul, ornaments 11-11-11-1, leopards facing left, rev. + IhES • AVTEM • TRANCIENS • PER • MEDIV • ILLORV • IBAT, single annulet stops, floriate cross, crowned leopards in angles, with additional lys in second quarter, large E at centre, 7.249g [111.87grns], 12h, i.m. cross 1 (LAL dies E/11*; Doubleday 22 same dies; Schneider I, 12/- same obverse die; North 1138; S.1484), a trace off-centre and lightly clipped, nevertheless handsomely uniform with a hint of residual lustre in softly toned fields, a really good very fine and considered rare by Doubleday
