(x) Edward III (1327-1377), Fourth Coinage, Pre-Treaty Period, Noble, 1351-1352, Series C/B Mule, Tower (London), E | DWARD '• DEI • GRA • REX • ANGL '• 7 • FRANC • D • hYB, YB ligate, single annulet stops, closed E, Roman reversed-barred Ns, wedge-tailed R, King standing in ship, brandishing long sword and Royal shield set with semé of four fleurs and crescents in first quarter, wearing Royal jupon over brigandine armour, rerebrace, couter and gauntlet visible on sword arm, chain mail draping below, ropes 3/3, quatrefoils 5/5, bow-sprit through foc'sul, ornaments 1-1-1-1, leopards facing left, rev. + IhE ': AVTE : TRANCIENS : PER : MEDIVM : ILLORVM • IBAT, double annulet (colon) stops except after ILLORVM [?], open Es and Cs, floriate cross, crowned leopards in angles, with additional lys in second quarter, large open E at centre, 7.741g [119.46grns], 6h, i.m. cross 1 (LAL, obverse die I/-; Doubleday -; Schneider I, - cf. 17/ same obverse die; North 1144/1138; S.1486/1484), subtly crimped but otherwise on a full neat round flan, with handsome reddish tone courteous of the celebrated 'Chippendale' cabinets of its former owner, the reverse die unknown to Lawrence, the muling unknown to Doubleday and Schneider, presumably extremely rare thus
