Spain, Kingdom, Order of Maria Isabella Luisa, silver Cross, the obverse engraved 'GALLANTRY - 1836' the, reverse engraved 'SAN SEBASTIAN'; Spanish Medal for San Sebastian 5 May 1836, 6 private engraved clasps, San Sebastion (sic) May 4th, 36; May 5th; May 28th; June 6th; June 9th; October 1st, the rim engraved 'Robert McGahan, Sergeant, Artillery Regiment, B.A.L.', the first with ornate riband bar, mounted on riband bar, contact marks, very fine (2)

Sympathy for Queen Isabella of Spain, defending her throne against her uncle Don Carlos, led to an Act of Parliament in 1835 permitting the formation of a volunteer force to support her cause. The British Auxiliary Legion, as it became known, consisted of some 9,000 cavalry and infantry under Sir George De Lacy Evans. The Artillery Regiment, British Auxiliary Legion took the field as a Field Battery with two light 6-pounders and two 12-pounder howitzers in total.
