The South Atlantic Medal awarded to Airtrooper M. J. Price, Army Air Corps, a member of No. 656 Squadron who was wounded by enemy shrapnel during the attack on Sir Galahad and Sir Tristram on 6 June 1982

South Atlantic 1982, with rosette (24520114 Airtpr M J Price AAC), mounted as worn, very fine

M. J. Price served as a member of No. 656 Squadron, Army Air Corps.

On 8 June 1982 five Argentine Skyhawks attacked the Sir Galahad and the Sir Tristram in Port Pleasant. During those attacks Price was wounded by shrapnel, whist serving in the Command Post Vehicle.

No.656 Squadron operated 12 Scout and 15 Gazelle helicopters in the South Atlantic campaign. The unit suffered only two casualties for the campaign: Major M. Forge and Staff Sergeant J. I. Baker who were killed by a missile strike on 6 June 1982, a 'friendly fire' strike from Cardiff. It appears that Price was the only casualty as a result of enemy action.

Sold with copied research and an article in the Journal of the OMRS confirming the casualty details.
