The Lancashire & Yorkshire Bank was established in 1862, and entered the Isle of Man through its acquisition of the Mercantile Bank, only to be later incorporated into Martins Bank Limited in 1928.

According to Isle of Man Paper Money, only four notes are recorded as being issued with this date. Therefore, the note presented here is extremely rare!
