Denis Fitzgerald was born at Clonmel, Tipperary, Ireland and attested in 1867 with the 85th Foot. Posted to India the next year on 30 January 1868 he was to serve there for some thirteen years, serving during the Second Anglo-Afghan War during that time. The Battalion served in the expedition against the Zaimukhts and participated in the destruction of their fortress at Zawa. Posted to Natal on 9 March 1881 they were too late to see any action during the First Anglo-Boer War and left again on 6 December. Returning to Great Britain Fitzgerald served until 17 February 1899; sold together with copied research.
