Postal History
1706-1815 a small group of early markings including 1706 (28 April) from Mary Traquair to Mr. Andra Riddell in Bath, endorsed "pd 5d.", the reverse with Edinburgh and London Bishop Marks, 1779 (Aug.) entire from Doncaster to Switzerland, the face struck with "don/caster" and red London "post/paid", the reverse with "3/av" Bishop Mark; 1793 entire letter to London, the face with superb "r.isle of/wight"; 1799 entire letter from Coventry to Birmingham, the face manuscript "Missent" prefacing horseshoe "birmingham"; 1805 entire letter from Warwick to Highworth showing three line "missent/to/birmingham" and "warwick/107" mileage marking; and 1815 entire letter from London to Dublin struck with "tanderagee/65" mileage mark. Also 1857 and 1863 "Returned Paid Letter" envelopes, the latter "On Her Majesty's Service". A fine and appealing group.
