1660 (12 October) entire letter from John Mundy, High Sheriff of Derbyshire at Markeaton, with address panel reading "... Col. Edward King, a Commissioner for Disbanding the Army at York"; contents include reference to the availability of £3,000 "for ye Pole money of this County" for distribution to pay off the Cromwellian Army, adding "I wish it may answer your expectation, and sifficient to disband our Souldiers. I feare there is a great abuse and some I feare pays not above 12d. for £10. The postscript interestingly reads "The certainty of this messenger's delivery hereof & ye uncertainty of your return from Yorke into Lincolnshire, and ye fear of miscarriage of uncertaine messengers, hath occasioned some delay of this answer but I hope none of the Public Service, nor this country's deliverance from their burden". A rare and appealing letter sent early within the Restoration period by Special Messenger.
