1600 (8 Nov.) entire letter from Guildhall, London with address panel reading "To ye High Sheriffe of the County of Derby", endorsed "For His Matie's Especiall Service" and Franck" (free frank) and signed "Wheler"; the letter signed "Wheler", "Thomas Rick" and "Thomas Player". This letter falls in the unusual period of uncertainty between 1660-61 in which free franking privileges were sometimes overlooked; in this case it appears that they were upheld as no charge is given. Rare.
