Auction: 25018 - The "KMC" Collection of Stamps and Covers of Mexico Part II
Lot: 191
Mexico
1864 "Hidalgos"
Saltillo 4r. Brown used. Centering is bottom with perforations touching the design as usual. Very attractive, fresh and extremely rare stamp with light cancel. This issue was the first perforated one and was printed in the USA and ordered by Benito Juárez. It was briefly used in July-August in Saltillo and Monterrey while Juárez moved his government to those cities. Most of the production was delivered after Juárez took control of the country, but was not used and reached the philatelic market, so it is abundant and inexpensive without district overprint. However overprinted stamps used or unused are very scarce. 1979 MEPSI certificate. Scott 16, $2,400; NF $3,000.
