Auction: 25018 - The "KMC" Collection of Stamps and Covers of Mexico Part II
Lot: 190

Mexico
1864 "Hidalgos"
Saltillo 2r. Blue, a used example, centered to top left with perforations touching the design. A very attractive example of this extremely rare stamp, used with a light cancellation. This issue was the first to be perforated, printed in the United States by order of Benito Juárez. It saw brief use in July and August in Saltillo and Monterrey, during the period when Juárez moved his government to those cities. Most of the print run was delivered after Juárez regained control of the country but was never issued for postal use, instead entering the philatelic market and making non-overprinted examples common and inexpensive. However, stamps bearing district overprints, whether used or unused, are very scarce, with this denomination being the rarest in the set. 1974 and 1998 MEPSI certificate. Scott 15, $1,750.
