Lot: 158

Mexico
1864 "Eagles"
Mexico District 3c. Brown, 4th Period, consignment 71-1865, narrow margins and cutting into, used with c.d.s. A total of 2,403 stamps were printed for the Mexico City local mail experiment, with only 200 originating from this consignment. Cancelled examples of this denomination are exceptionally scarce, as most letters posted in the designated city mailboxes were left uncancelled; only those handed in directly at the post office received a cancellation. A good example and an essential piece of classic Mexico, being one of the likely fifteen known examples from any consignment that received an actual cancelation. 2023 MEPSI certificate. Scott 18, $3,250.
