Auction: 25018 - The "KMC" Collection of Stamps and Covers of Mexico Part II
Lot: 157

Mexico
1864 "Eagles"
Mexico District 3c. Brown, 4th Period, consignment 71-1865, narrow margins cutting into, used with c.d.s. 2,403 stamps were issued for the Mexico City local mail experiment, of which only 200 came from this consignment. The exceptional scarcity of cancelled examples of this denomination arises from the fact that most letters bearing this stamp, when deposited in the designated city mailboxes, were left uncancelled, with cancellations applied only to those presented directly at the post office. A desirable example and an essential piece of classic Mexico, being one of the likely fifteen known examples from any consignment that received an actual cancelation. 2023 MEPSI certificate. Scott 18, $3,250.
