1856 Provisionals Type-set and printed on surface-coloured paper at the Official Gazette, Georgetown
Covers "The Unique Money Letter"
1856 (2 May) envelope (opened out for display) addressed to Georgetown, with endorsement Money Letter -with the same manuscript style as the addressee's inscription-, bearing on the reverse 4c. black on magenta, initialled "E.D.W.", cut square with excellent margins, centrally cancelled (not tied) by neat Demerara double-arc d.s,. with an additional and also clearly applied strike adjacent. Heavily creased causing surface damages and torn, though with much of fresh original colour and of very fine appearance. Fourteen covers are recorded bearing this stamp -if we include the large front cover used on 12.4.1856-, this being even scarcer if we consider that only four exhibit the more difficult cut-square examples, and being unique in the whole issue as a "money letter". S.G. 24, (£25,000 for a used off cover). Photo
